Therapy that brings out your inner light

Trying to navigate your professional life while feeling doubtful of your skills and decision making can feel like a challenging, and sometimes isolating, task. Others may recognize and praise you for everything you’ve achieved; but, internally, you may be questioning whether you actually deserve it. Dreams and goals may seem out of reach because you’re unsure of your ability to achieve them, or you don’t see the point in trying because society is not built with Black or queer success in mind. Challenging that mindset could be the next step.

Does this sound familiar?

Long winded road representing fatigue and exhaustion

→ You’re tired of doing well on paper and feeling quietly exhausted underneath

→ You feel the pressure of being the only one in the room, and the weight of holding it together for everyone else while your own doubt has nowhere to go.

→ It’s hard to live with the inner voice that says you do not belong here, despite your hard work and credentials

→ You feel like your goals will never be enough. That nobody would understand how someone like you, with everything you have built, could feel this much doubt.

→ The lack of self-compassion keeps you stuck, afraid to move forward in case the next move is the wrong one.

You’re sick and tired of feeling…

The exhaustion of always being on. The guilt of slowing down. Feeling like you’ll be “found out” as an imposter one day and revealed to have been pretending the whole time. Being Black, queer, or both in a society that disregards you and asks you to work twice as hard for the same recognition. The work of code-switching. The exhaustion of being the only one in the room.

Imagine a world where…

You’re able to live by your values and succeed while doing it. You can combat internal or external doubt and know you earned and deserve the position you’re in. You have time and energy for work, but also your family, friends, and you. You can dream big and know for a fact that you’ll make it happen. Confident decision making is not out of reach.

MEET NIESA WHITE

THERAPIST FOR ANXIOUS HIGH ACHIEVERS IN NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK

NYC Black female therapist, Niesa White, LMHC-D

I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC-D #015471) in New York, and the founder of Aurora Psychotherapy. I came to this work because I know what it feels like to be the only one in the room. To be the high achiever on paper and the person quietly wondering, in private, whether you really belong here. To carry the pressure of being a credit to your community and a reassurance to everyone else, while your own doubt has nowhere to go.

My clients are Black and queer high achievers who look fine on the outside and are exhausted on the inside. Some are mid-career professionals carrying imposter syndrome. Some are navigating identity and belonging in spaces that were not built with them in mind. Some are doing it all and quietly running on empty. Together we work on the inner voice that says you are not qualified, the pressure of being the only one in the room, and the cost of holding it together for everyone else.

What about insurance?

Aurora Psychotherapy is a private-pay practice at $175 per session and does not accept insurance directly. I am happy to provide a superbill for you to submit for reimbursement, and I partner with Thrizer to verify benefits, submit claims, and complete reimbursements on your behalf.

Working out of network lets me build a practice that prioritizes your care over insurance-company requirements. I am not bound by session caps or treatment plans designed for shorter, standardized work. For clients with out-of-network benefits, reimbursement is typically straightforward and Thrizer handles most of the paperwork. If you do not have out-of-network benefits and the fee is a barrier, the Loveland Foundation Therapy Fund may be an option.

Not sure if your insurance has Out-Of-Network (OON) benefits? Use the tool below to verify!
